Amelia Gonzalez interviews reknown playwright, poet and author, Luis Alfaro.

Luis Alfaro works in plays, poetry, short stories, performance and journalism. A Chicano, born and raised in downtown Los Angeles, he is His work has acumulated numerous awards and recognitions. Among them are: the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship and a resident artist at the Mark Taper Forum, where he is co-director of the Latino Theatre Initiative. He has been awarded the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays twice, for his plays Electricidad and Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
They’re talking about his play, Hero produced by Teatro Vision and playing at MACLA in San Jose. Hero is the story of A young Hero returns home from Iraq. His hard working mother, Vietnam veteran uncle, slacker brother and fickle girlfriend are at a loss as to how to celebrate his return. With humor and insight, Hero looks at a young man’s decision to go to war.
