A Call In The Night
Joe recalls his childhood during a period when he was confined to a wheelchair, his father declining, his mother training a new clown for their family managed circus. We listen to a play in which a lonely, cultivated woman seduces a man fresh in from the country amidst bubonic plague and impossible chaos. Scenes from the play are critiqued by a panel of academics. In his closing monologue, Joe recalls an operation for his club feet which coincided with his father’s death and a trip to Boston 16 years later.
