|Tuesday, Nov. 14, all Pacifica stations will air a 15-hour special produced by Pacifica Radio Archives. You’ll get to hear highlights from its brand-new audio collection, Public Radio Anthology, V.1|
Pacifica Radio Archives introduces its latest master collection of historic audio, diving deep into the storied corners of public radio stations KPFK 90.7 FM – Los Angeles, KPFA 94.1 FM – Berkeley, KPFT 90.1 FM – Houston, WPFW 89.3 FM – Washington DC, and WBAI 99.5 FM – New York.Donate to the Pacifica Radio Archives
Rare, significant, and unfiltered, this new collection not only dutifully showcases familiar names synonymous with Pacifica Radio and progressive politics, arts and culture, but also introduces listeners to voices obscure – yet voices no less important to the distinct sound that is now known collectively across the world as Public Radio.
In this anthology you will find over 1000 hours of voices of Pacifica including Noam Chomsky, Jazz Pianist Mary Lou Williams, Irish Feminist Padraigin McGillicuddy, Pete Seeger, Oakland General Strike of 1946, The Beat Poets of San Francisco including Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Laurie Anderson, Maxine Hong Kingston, Jamaican “I Threes” legends Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths, Nobel Peace Prize winner Bishop Desmond Tutu, Henry Miller, Gore Vidal, Howard Zinn, Audre Lorde, Arundhati Roy, Tariq Ali, Howard Zinn, Dolores Huerta, Paul Robeson, Ntozake Shange, Dizzy Gillespie and so many more.
The hours will be hosted by Pacifica Favorites Amy Goodman of Democracy Now, Margaret Prescod of Sojourner Truth, Sonali Kolhatkar of Rising Up, Ian Masters of Background Briefing, Eric Mann of Voices From The Frontlines and many more.
You can listen to the broadcast on any of Pacifica’s stations, via their web streams, via the updated Pacifica Radio app, here, and pacificanetwork.org.
Listeners will be able to get this new collection on a 64GB USB drive, similar to the one introduced a year ago (Voices that Change the World). Both collections will be available for a donation. All funds raised will support the digitization and preservation efforts of PRA, to help save the thousands of historic audio recordings that are currently on analog tape.
