Animals & Giraffes (Phillip Greenlief and Claudia La Rocco) on The Hear and Now — 10 p.m. Thursday, July 20

In the second hour of The Hear and Now (around 11 p.m.), reeds player Phillip Greenlief and writer Claudia La Rocco talk with host Derk Richardson about their duo Animals & Giraffes, which is releasing its debut CD, July, and performing Wednesday, July 26, as part of the Outsound New Music Summit at the Community Music Center, 544 Capp St., San Francisco. In concert, Greenlief will play tenor sax and Bb clarinet, La Rocco will give voice to her texts, and they’ll be joined by Eveyln Davis, piano; Aurora Josephson, voice; and John Shiurba, guitar.

We’ll hear tracks from July, discuss the origins and evolution of Animals & Giraffes, and find out more about the New Music Summit.
