The Algerian War for Independence and Its Influence in Liberation Struggles

A conversation with Elaine Mokhtefi about the Algerian war for independence, the defeat of France in 1962, and its influence in liberation movements in the Third World.

Guest: Elaine Mokhtefi is a journalist, translator, and author who was a witness to many historical political events. She crossed paths with some of the most important revolutionary leaders an thinkers of the time: Frantz Fanon, Stokely Carmichael, Timothy Leary, Ahmed Ben Bella, Jomo Kenyatta, and Eldridge Cleaver. She was instrumental in the establishment of the International Section of the Black Panther Party in Algiers. Mokhtefi is author of the book Algiers, Third World Capital: Freedom Fighters, Revolutionaries, Black Panthers.
