How Did We Get Here? Ursula LeGuin; and the Gymnastics Abuse Scandal

Acclaimed novelist Karen Joy Fowler talks about her beloved friend, Ursula K. LeGuin.  We also hear clips from a few of LeGuin’s interviews and speeches. LeGuin, who has been recognized as one of the most important writers of the last century, frequently talked about fantasy and science fiction as ways of imagining deeper realities than what exists.

Then sports and culture writer Joan Ryan talks about the culture which allowed a team doctor to abuse over 150 elite gymnasts over 20 years. She also discusses the film, “I, Tonya.” Ryan is the author of LITTLE GIRLS IN PRETTY BOXES: The Making and Breaking of Elite Gymnasts and Figure Skaters, which Sports Illustrated has named one of the top 100 sports books of all time.
