Juneteenth in Berkeley has always been more than a block party. It’s a living celebration reflecting Black legacy, joy, solidarity and imagination. This year’s festival continues in that community tradition of honoring our ancestors, empowering the present, and reimaging what’s next. The plethora of family friendly kids activites, 100+ vendors offering food, crafts and information resources PLUS two live performance stages, a Kid Zone, food, music, as well as Black culture and history programming.
Produced since 1986 by the Berkeley Juneteenth Association
“In our [39] years of existence, our consistent theme has been celebrating the African American experience and using the [Juneteenth Festival] as a vehicle to demonstrate that the community is a part of — and not outside of — the society’s mainstream. We do this by featuring and celebrating our culture and our music, and by providing new and upcoming talent with the opportunity to perform professionally.” –Delores Cooper, one of the original founders of Berkeley Juneteenth, who has continued stewardship of the festival for more than 35 years.
The Festival takes place on Sunday, June 21, from 11AM TO 7PM, on Adeline Street, from Ashby Avenue to Alcatraz Avenue in Berkeley, steps from Ashby BART. The Father’s Day celebration features 100+ vendors, two live stages, a Kid Zone, food, music, and Black culture and history programming. Produced since 1986 by the Berkeley Juneteenth Association.
