The 10th Annual San Francisco World Music Festival

 

The 10th Annual San Francisco World Music Festival takes place at various venues in San Francisco and Berkeley from November 13 through the 22nd. 

 

This year the festival will be presenting An International Youth Music Initiative as it's theme.  This initiative brings together youth from all over the Bay Area, 12-18 years of age, combining a diverse range of our world's musical traditions and cultures, from the ragas of North India to the choral music of Eastern Europe.  The festival features a film night featuring a film about the music and culture of Kyrgyzstan, lecture/demonstration with master musician Akylbek Serkebaev and more; a concert with Akylbek Serkebaev from Kyrgyzstan, the "Tablas and More Tablas" concert featuring the Ali Akbar College Of Music Youth Tabla Ensemble with special guests and the premiere of the International Youth Music Initiative featuring a world premiere of youth from around the world performing together and a tribute to Ali Akbar Khan with his son Alam Khan and vocalist Gaayatri Kaudinya.  Venues include the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Berkeley's Silk Road House, SF's Alice Fong Yu Alternative School, Sangati Center and Kanbar Hall at the Jewish Community Center of SF.
