Letters to Washington

Letters to Washington – August 11, 2010

Long time Democratic Representative Charles Rangel took to the House floor yesterday to address charges against him of ethics violations.  We’ll hear excerpts from his address and then we’ll talk to Craig Holman of Public Citizen about the House Ethics committee and the charges of ethics violations against both Charles Rangel and Maxine Waters.

Democratic Representative Keith Ellison has called for White House spokesperson Robert Gibbs to step down after Gibbs criticized what he called the professional left.  Ryan Grim, Capitol Hill correspondent for the Huffington Post is covering it and he’ll join us.

And I’ll be joined by Professors Judy Yung and Erica Lee.  They have co-written a book about Angel Island.  We’ll be in discussion about how such immigration laws as the Chinese Exclusion Act helped form restrictive immigration policies today.
