“Legendary” Los Angeles poet/performer Michael C. Ford is interviewed by Jack Foley. Ford gave his first poetry reading in 1969; the other readers were Jim Morrison, who had encouraged Ford to participate and who was arranging the reading, Michael McClure, whom Ford met for the first time, and Jack Hirschman, who had been Ford’s teacher. Ford’s selected poems, Emergency Exits (1998), was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, but, as Ford says, “Nominated means you lost.” His new book is To Kiss the Blood Off Our Hands. Fire Escapes is his most recent CD. Part one.
