Voices of the Middle East and North Africa – January 24, 2007

In this week’s program, we pay tribute to prominent Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, who was assassinated in Istanbul, Turkey on Friday Jan 19th.

Later in the program, we will speak with History Professor Thabit A. J. Abdullah of York University in Toronto and

Hanna Edward, General Director of Iraqi Al Amal Association in Baghdad and a Board Member of Iraqi Women’s Network, about the current U.S. military escalation in Iraq and the situation in the city of Baghdad.

Also, Palestinian-American writer and educator Mona Halabi will read excerpts from the travelogue of her recent trip to Jerusalem and the West bank. Mona and David Halabi will be appearing in an event sponsored by the Middle East Children’s Alliance at Lapena Cultural Center in Berkeley at 7 PM on Thursday, February 1.

Finally, Berkeley-based activist and journalist Henry Norr will read a commentary on Amazon.com’s egregious treatment of Jimmy Carter’s new book "Palestine Peace not Apartheid."
