Bay of Souls/Robert Stone
Damascus Gate/Robert Stone
While “Bay of Souls”, which takes place partly on a fictional island in the Caribbean, deals with similar themes as his earlier work, including politics, the religious impulse, and the search for meaning, it seems pared down compared to Stone’s masterful previous novel, “Damascus Gate,” which may be the best book written to date about modern-day Israel, the intifada, and the nature of Jerusalem. Robert Stone is interviewed by Richard Wolinsky.
